Todd Ohlheiser addresses attendees at the 2014 Annual Conference.

Welcome to the Colorado Stone, Sand & Gravel Association update for December. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, as the Christmas season is quickly approaching.

CSSGA held our annual Conference in late November, with attendance at near record levels. This year the conference was held alongside the CRMCA conference, allowing for interaction where joint committee work occurs. This was an opportunity to all members to receive committee updates, review the aggressive goals for 2015, and get a better overall understanding of what is happening with the association. Several guest speakers included CDOT Commissioner Les Gruen and National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association President & CEO, Michael Johnson. Many thanks to Annelise Shepherd for working hard behind the scenes to make the conference the huge success it was. Click here to view photos from the event on our Facebook page. Also, I encourage you to submit your feedback on the event through our post-conference survey.

This year, the theme of “Strength in Numbers” signifies the successful involvement with several other associations and national groups, which continues to build momentum for the construction aggregate industry. While working with groups like the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Colorado Contractors Association, Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association, and the Portland Cement Association, fundraisers were held to raise money for issues that affect all construction segments throughout the state. Although there are many different focus areas for each association, we successfully joined forces where it made sense. I appreciate the leadership of these groups as we plan to continue this approach on appropriate items.

We have accomplished a lot in 2014, but there is more to do. Thanks to all those who has been engaged in your association throughout the year, and I look forward to working with you and others as we build momentum and make 2015 our best year yet! Thanks again, and have a safe and Happy Holiday Season!
