Thanks for taking the time to read the February 2015 Executive Director’s Blog.  Things are moving fast and we are already well into the second month of 2015.  I hope everyone is off to a great start.  We remain focused on our Strategic Plan at CSSGA, and building on our “Strength in Numbers” approach.  By joining forces with other like-minded groups and associations, we know much can be accomplished.

Our Legislative meetings are underway at the capitol every Monday morning during the session.  Anyone interested in joining us is welcome at 8:00 am in the Capitol basement.  Additionally, our next Legislative breakfast is at 7:30 Wednesday, February 18.  More information is available on our event calendar and I encourage everyone to get involved! RSVP to Annelise if you plan to attend.

Also, this spring we are pushing hard for a Federal Long Term Highway Funding Bill.  Nearly 45 percent of all states’ highway funding comes from federal investment, primarily through the resources available in the Highway Trust Fund (HTF).  In July 2014 Congress passed legislation to transfer $10.8 billion to the HTF allowing the fund to meet current obligations until May 31, 2015.  The need for increased funding and a long term bill is critical to the construction industry.  Everyone can play a critical part by hosting a legislator at one of your plants or job sites, visiting congressional offices, writing letters and emails, or going to a town hall meeting.  All of these are effective ways to communicate the need for a long term transportation bill.  Please take the time to download and personalize our letter template to send this information to your elected official.

Also, I remind everyone to attend our Safety Luncheon on February 27.  This is an opportunity to bring together top company officials and field personnel in recognizing those who have worked safely in 2014.  We are also excited about our new “Safety Innovation Award”.  This will be the first year for this award that shares best practices and helps keep workers safe.  Please plan to participate in the Luncheon. Click here to register your team (prices increase after February 16.)

Lastly, I encourage you to attend our March 17 Networking Event at the Denver Press Club. Visit the registration page for additional details and sponsorship information.

Again, I hope everyone is off to a great start to 2015 and you have a safe and prosperous year!
