February 2016 Executive Director’s Blog

Hello CSSGA members! Welcome to the February 2016 President’s Blog.  As we enter the second month of the year we continue to stay busy at the CSSGA. Below is a brief re-cap of what is going on with your trade association.

Legislative Session Underway:  Today we conclude the third week of this legislative session.  Our Legislative Subcommittee continues to work with our lobbyist, Totsy Rees, on bills addressing the aggregate industry.  To date, the session is starting off slow with very few bills in the works.  I welcome any member to join us at 8 am Monday mornings in the Capitol basement to be part of the process.  I also invite you to join us for this month’s Legislative Breakfast taking place on February 17 at 7:30 am at Tetra Tech’s offices in downtown Denver. We have invited interim DNR Executive Director, Bob Randall, to speak to the CSSGA and CRMCA membership.

Communications & Social Media Initiative:  CSSGA will expand our presence on social media platforms, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, in 2016. The association will utilize these platforms to educate on the usage and improvement of the mining and aggregate material supply industry, participate in political campaigns and messaging, promote our Part 46 MSHA training program, seminars, engage members in ongoing conversations, and keep the membership updated on regulatory issues and challenges.  As was previously communicated, Annelise Shepherd will be in charge of this initiative as part of her expanded role as Communications & Administrative Coordinator.  Please look for more information on this exciting initiative in the near future.

Bill Ray, WR Communications, updates members on polling for the transportation funding initiative.

Transportation Funding.  CSSGA maintains a strong presence in the Colorado Construction Industry Coalition (CCIC).  I am confident our work with our CCIC partners will yield results for transportation funding in the state of Colorado.  Our survey results have indicated infrastructure related issues are a top concern for Coloradans.  The association will continue to keep members updated on our progress.

Thank you for your continued support of the CSSGA.  Please contact Annelise or me for more information or with any questions.  Thanks again!
