January 2022 President’s Blog

Greetings Sand Stone and Gravel members. I’ll start by introducing myself as the new CSSGA board president, Mark Gardner with Whitewater Building Materials Corp. in Grand Junction, Colorado. I’ve served on both the CRMCA and CSSGA boards and I’m proud to be serving as the incoming president for an association with a rich history of Safety, Environmental Stewardship, Regulatory and Legislative involvement as well as representing an industry vital to the state.

Last week, the residents of Boulder County faced devastating fires that destroyed over a thousand homes. Those impacted are our friends, family, and fellow association members. We mourn their loss of home, security, and the intangible including memories, irreplaceable photos and keepsakes. Here is information on how to help those affected. Please reach out to help if you are able.

CSSGA’s first joint event for 2022 is January 31, at the Ski Retreat in Breckenridge. CSSGA and CRMCA members will have an opportunity to contribute to the associations’ Roadmap to the Future. This exercise will focus on the pillars of CSSGA and CRMCA:

• Environment/Land Use/Advocacy.
• Safety,
• Technology,
• and Marketing

Members will review the current state of these areas and contribute ideas for the future direction of the association in each. This roadmap, along with member feedback, will help shape the CSSGA’s updated strategic plan which will be presented to the board of directors in July, and finalized at the 2022 Annual Members Meeting in November. Please plan on attending.

Upcoming Events. Please plan on joining the association at our upcoming events!

• DOT Safety Roundtable. CSSGA and CRMCA’s Joint Safety Committee will host State Trooper, Sgt. Todd James, for an interactive roundtable discussion at 10:00 a.m. on January 13. Attend in person at the association offices or remotely.
• January Legislative Breakfast. The inaugural 2022 Legislative Breakfast will occur on January 19 with guest speaker Max Hynes from Sen. Hickenlooper’s office. The event will take place at 7:30 a.m. at Civic Center Plaza (1560 Broadway, 19th Floor Conference Room, Denver, CO 80202). Email annelise@coloradocaa.org to RSVP.
• Ski Retreat. Join CRMCA and CSSGA for the Annual Ski Retreat! The event will take place January 31 – February 1 in Breckenridge, CO.
• Summer Conference. Save the date for the 2022 Summer Conference! This year’s event will take place on July 21 – 22 at the Steamboat Grand Hotel.
