Hello CSSGA members.  It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since I’ve been blogging on the CSSGA website – but here’s the proof from April 2014!

With the first quarter of 2015 behind us our attention is shifting to better weather and summer activities.  Here is what is happening and/or planned:

  • Legislative session continues with the tracking and discussions of many bills at the state Capitol.  Totsy Rees and your Legislative Sub-Committee do a great job protecting the interests of our industry.  This session we have supported the recent bipartisan workforce-development bills package. These bills will direct funds into internship programs, worker training, and apprenticeship programs.  As construction aggregate producers our operations rely on skilled and motivated employees.  Therefore, support of this initiative is critical to our industry. View this article in the Denver Business Journal for more details.
  • I will again be joining the Colorado Construction Industry Coalition (CCIC) in a joint lobbying effort for infrastructure funding in Washington, DC for the Transportation Construction Coalition fly-in.  This industry wide group consisting of CCA, CAPA, CRMCA and PCA comes together for this important initiative as we deal with crumbing roads, bridges, and other aspects of our state and country.
  • On a similar note, I am pleased to report that Mike Sheahan continues to push forward with our Education Outreach Committee.  Through this committee he is developing tools and presentations that can be used by all of us to deliver the infrastructure message across the state.  Look for more information soon as we work to educate present and future voters on the issue.
  • Lastly, we had a very successful Networking Event at the Denver Press Club on March 17.  Even though it was St Patrick’s Day, many dedicated CSSGA members came downtown for networking and lobbying opportunities.  Thanks to those who participated and a special thanks to Senator Kevin Grantham and Representative J. Paul Brown for their continued support of our industry. View photos from the event on our Facebook page and be sure to like us while you’re there!

I again thank you as members for your active participation in your association.  Without this, the progress we are making would not be possible.  Thanks again and I hope you continue to have a safe 2015!
