Committee Overview
The Governmental Affairs Committee is CSSGA’s voice in the Colorado Capitol, championing policies that support the aggregate mining industry’s growth and sustainability. Active during the legislative session (January–May), the committee engages with elected officials, regulatory leaders, and industry partners to promote environmentally responsible practices and counter misconceptions about mining’s impact. Through the Colorado Construction Industry Coalition (CIC-527) and the Colorado ROCK PAC, we influence legislation and support industry-friendly candidates, ensuring the industry’s vital role in Colorado’s economy is recognized and protected.

Key Initiatives
- Legislative Advocacy: Meet weekly during the legislative session to strategize with CSSGA’s lobbying team, influencing bills that impact aggregate mining, such as permitting and reclamation regulations.
- Policy Resources: Develop policy briefs and infographics on mining’s economic contributions and sustainability efforts, empowering Legislative Advocates with data to address “not in my backyard” concerns.
- Political Engagement: Manage the Colorado ROCK PAC to support state and local candidates who champion industry-friendly policies, strengthening CSSGA’s influence.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association (CRMCA) and other construction groups to present a united front on regulatory and legislative issues.
- Community Outreach: Share reclamation success stories, like water storage and wildlife repopulation, to educate and inform and policymakers on mining’s environmental stewardship.
