Committee Overview

The Regulatory & Environmental Committee leads CSSGA’s efforts to balance aggregate mining with environmental responsibility. We advocate for fair land use policies, common-sense permitting guidelines, and educate stakeholders on the industry’s sustainability achievements, such as water storage and wildlife repopulation since 1976. By collaborating with regulators, communities, and industry partners, the committee ensures mining operations meet stringent environmental standards while supporting Colorado’s infrastructure needs. Our work counters misconceptions about mining’s impact, fostering trust and cooperation.

Key Initiatives

  • Reclamation Innovation: Advance reclamation practices, transforming mined land into lakes, wildlife habitats, and community spaces, showcasing successes for Community Educators and Legislative Advocates.
  • Regulatory Collaboration: Work with state agencies to streamline permitting and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, supporting Safety Officers and Legislative Advocates.
  • Public Education: Produce infographics and videos highlighting sustainable practices, like native plant repopulation, to engage Community Educators and address “not in my backyard” concerns.
  • Policy Advocacy: Develop policy briefs on land use and environmental standards, empowering Legislative Advocates to shape balanced regulations.
  • Career Awareness: Share sustainability-focused career paths with Aspiring Miners, highlighting roles in environmental management and reclamation.
